About Troop 104
Est: 1992
Decatur, Illinois
At Troop 104, our philosophy is: Scouting is an Adventure! Through the Scout Oath and Scout Law, we ensure a fun environment for Scouts to learn, explore, and become good citizens in their communities.
Patrol Method
The patrol method gives Boy Scouts an experience in interacting in small groups, which provide opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and completion of rank advancements and merit badges.
Outdoors
Scouting is designed to take place outdoors. Where a Scout's skills are developed and put to the test. Ultimately, creating a more resourceful, self-reliant, and self-confident Scout.
Advancement
Scouts' skills are constantly developed and tested through various merit badges and rank advancements. These life skills stick with the scout throughout their time in Scouting, and into adulthood.
Personal Growth
Scouts grow as they participate in community service projects and do Good Turns for others. Frequent personal conferences with the Troop's Scoutmaster, service projects, campouts, and leadership opportunities help each Scout in their growth toward Scouting's aims.
Leadership Development
Scouting encourages the Scouts to learn and practice leadership skills. Every Scout has the opportunity to participate in both shared and total leadership roles. Understanding the concepts of leadership helps a Scout accept the leadership role of others and guides the Scout towards being a better citizen in the community, nation, and world.
The Uniform
The uniform makes the Troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive youth image in the community. The uniform also shows a Scout's pride in his troop, and for Scouting. The uniform signifies Scouting unity while allowing each Scout to show their individual achievements.
Associations with Adults
Scouts learn a great deal by watching how adults conduct themselves. Scout Leaders can be a positive role model for the members of the Troop. Even though Troop meetings are organized, and ran by the Scouts, the adult leaders of the troop are always there to help, support, and encourage Scouts to succeed in all they do.
